Understanding this premium nickel superalloy and why it commands top scrap prices.
Waspaloy is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-based superalloy containing approximately 57% Ni, 19% Cr, 13% Co, 4% Mo, 3% Ti, and 1.3% Al. The cobalt content is a key value driver.
Waspaloy is used almost exclusively in aerospace gas turbine engines — specifically in high-temperature rotating components like turbine discs, rings, and shafts where strength at 1400°F+ is required.
Waspaloy commands premium scrap prices due to its high cobalt content (13%), high nickel content (57%), and the fact that it's produced in relatively small quantities for aerospace-only applications.
Waspaloy is non-magnetic, silver-grey, and extremely hard. Mill markings typically show "WASPALOY" or "UNS N07001". XRF analysis will show the distinctive Co + Ni + Cr + Mo signature.
Retired or scrapped gas turbine discs, spacer rings, and rotating components from GE, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, and all major OEMs.
Surplus Waspaloy bar, rod, and plate from aerospace machine shops and material distributors.
Waspaloy chips and turnings from CNC machining operations. Clean, dry material preferred.
Surplus forgings, near-net-shape parts, and billet material from aerospace forging operations.
